Becoming a Member

Membership in the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Stockton is open to anyone sixteen years old or older who is supportive of the church’s mission. In the Unitarian Universalist tradition, we do not require members to affirm a creed or statement of belief. We do, however, take seriously the meaning of membership in our church. We encourage all members to find ways to deepen their spiritual life and contribute to the life of the church community. In addition, all members are expected to contribute financially to the church unless they are experiencing financial hardship.

If you have been visiting for a few months and believe you are ready to join the church, please speak with our Membership Chair Mary Bullard, she can be contacted at

We strongly encourage all prospective members to participate in our new-member orientation classes, offered at least twice per year. You will learn more about the history of Unitarian Universalism, opportunities for learning and service at our church, and expectations for membership. If you decide to become a member, we will invite you to sign our Membership Book and welcome you formally at a special Sunday service. We look forward to welcoming you into our church community!
