This class includes both mindfulness meditation and learning about the teachings of the Buddha. We generally begin with a brief check-in from participants about their practice. I then introduction the meditation, and we meditate, followed by any questions regarding meditation.
The teachings portion is a talk and discussion centering on the teachings of the Buddha—his understanding of the causes of suffering and his practices to ease our reactions to the challenges we face. The emphasis is how we can use the teachings of the Buddha in our daily lives.
This class meets monthly on the second or third Tuesday, from 1-3 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church. We welcome new participants. If you think this would be of interest to you, please come and check it out.
The class is facilitated by Sara Milnes, who’s been practicing for 17 years and has participated in several advanced programs on the Buddha’s teachings.
