Children of preschool age to 12th grade are invited to attend our Sunday classes in the Religious Education (RE) Cottage next door to the church. Younger children are welcome in the nursery in the Cottage as early as 10:15 am. After the beginning of the Sunday service, children 3 and older are escorted to their classrooms. If your child is new, you may assist her/him the first few times to get acquainted. You will also fill out a registration form. All parents fill out a new registration form each September. These forms are located in Jackson Hall.
Sunday School
Lessons are completed at the same time as the adult worship service. Parents should pick up their children in the Cottage after the service ends. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers are welcome to stay in the nursery until 12 noon.
Several Sundays throughout the year are devoted to intergenerational worship, in which children stay for the whole service, often participating in the presentation. These Sundays are noted on our newsletter calendar.
Our volunteer teachers provide lessons and fun activities for youth, focusing on Unitarian Universalist principles, social service projects, and world religions. Our program strives to create an accepting environment where children are free to explore diverse spiritual and philosophical perspectives. We emphasize the development of critical thinking skills alongside reverence for the gifts of various faith traditions. We also support each child’s own intuitive sensibility and learning style.
Teachers are volunteers who have been associated with the church for at least 6 months, and have had a background check, at church expense. Most teachers are parents with children in the program. Teachers meet regularly to schedule, plan, and evaluate our classes. New teachers receive an orientation with the Director of Religious Education, and volunteer as an assistant several times before leading a class.
